WORD OF FAITH

Celebrating extravagant forgiveness

In this fourth week of Lent, we are again reminded that our God celebrates the flourishing of life and of relationships!

Respond to God’s call with open hearts and hands

“Lent is a journey that involves our whole life, our entire being. It is a time to reconsider the path we are taking … and to rediscover our profound relationship with God …” (Pope Francis, 2021 Ash Wednesday Homily).

This Season of Lent, we are drawn into the ‘cloud’

In 2022, when we want to make a contract with someone we get a lawyer to draw up the document and the parties sign it. Relatively easy!  This was not how it was done in Abram’s time.

Let’s enter our Lenten journey with enthusiasm

The journey has begun. This Lenten journey, which we know is so important in our relationship with God, with Jesus and with one another, has begun.

As we near the beginning of Lent, let us not be ‘blind guides’

The Gospel presented to us on Sunday from the Evangelist Luke is a perfect introduction to the liturgical season we begin this coming Wednesday — the Holy Season of Lent.

To all we encounter, be men and women of mercy

In Sunday’s Gospel, taken from that of the Evangelist Saint Luke, we can see the radicality of the New Testament and, most especially, of the Lord Jesus’ message of mercy. Just listen to what he has to say concerning relations between persons:

The central message of our faith

The Apostle Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians certainly cuts to the quick for our reflection this week.

Can we, like St. Paul, be redeemed by the Son of God?

The Apostle Paul is a fascinating man.

We are called to preach with love not contempt!

We are all familiar with the saying “familiarity breeds contempt,” but what does that mean?

The inspired Word of God must be shared!

We don’t often think about how all the various books of the Scriptures were brought together to create the complete canon of the Holy Bible.

The joy of Ordinary Time!

Well, here we are, back into Ordinary Time. The festivities of Christmas are over, the trees and poinsettias have come down and the Nativity, along with the other decorations, have been packed away for another year.

From Jesus’ baptism to our baptism, we are made new

We are a little more than a week into the new year and many of us have most likely decided we would try to do some things differently in our lives as the new year begins.

Feast of the Holy Family

On Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, coming just the day after Christmas. The Church invites us to reflect not just on the birth of Jesus, but what it was like for Him, as well as for Mary and Joseph, to grow up in the little town …

Nothing and no one is overlooked by God

God’s work does require our attention, and if we watch, then we will see that He does great things in small places, like Bethlehem or Elizabeth’s house.

Small acts help us find our faith

This Third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday, from the Latin word for Rejoice!
