NDBG GIRLS WIN CLASS D CROWN
March 7, 2023 at 8:31 p.m.
The Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons girls’ basketball team defeated Hartford, 58-48, to win the Section II Class D championship on March 2 at Hudson Valley Community College. "I am extremely proud of these young ladies for their heart, determination and most importantly their support of each other,” said NDBG coach Pat Moran, who was also named the school’s principal last week, in an email to The Evangelist. “It has been a long season with ups and downs, but what has never changed is their willingness to never give up." Junior Angie Deitz, who had 21 points and 11 rebounds, was named the tournament MVP for the second-seeded Golden Knights (14-7), and Mia Rose Wylie, who was named to the all-tournament squad, added 20. This is the first section title since 2019 for NDBG, which heads to the state regional final against the Section VII champ (Seton Catholic or Boquet Valley) on March 11. The rest of the championship team includes: Molly Moran, Autumn Davis, Cora Jusino, Katie Al-Urrcon, Paige Moran, Tatum Liverio and Shuh-Kye Stuart.
