The Catholic Central boys’ basketball team made history on March 4 by defeating Glens Falls, 73-59, in the Section II Class B final at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls for the program’s first section crown since 1981. The Crusaders were led by freshmen Darien Moore, who had 27 points and 13 rebounds and was named MVP of the tournament, and Sei’Mir Roberson, who added 21 points and earned all-tournament team honors. The win was especially sweet for the young Crusaders who suffered a heart-breaking 51-50 loss to Ichabod Crane in last year’s finals. The rest of the Crusaders, who are led by coach Guy DiBacco, are freshman Xaul Arroyo, senior Conor Gemmill, freshman Qwameik Smith, eighth-grader Xavjon Arroyo, senior Nick Schrom, seventh-grader Aiden Prunty, senior Nick Riley, junior Danny Bologna and junior Brian Warncke.
