ASH WEDNESDAY AT THE CATHEDRAL
March 3, 2022 at 4:49 p.m.
Parishes throughout the Diocese of Albany observed Ash Wednesday, March 2, as “A Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Ukraine,” as requested by Pope Francis. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, beginning a period of prayer and fasting, culminating with Holy Week and Easter Sunday, April 17. Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger celebrated Mass and distributed ashes at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception that day. Bishop Scharfenberger continues to urge Catholics to support emergency relief for Ukraine as the humanitarian crisis grows. Catholic Relief Services is working with its partner, Caritas Ukraine, to respond. Use this link to help:https://bit.ly/3hbagDJ. The Knights of Columbus also have established the Ukraine Solidarity Fund and you can donate at: kofc.org/secure/en/donate/ukraine.html.
