OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE MASS
December 20, 2019 at 3:21 p.m.
The Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Americas in Albany celebrated a Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe with Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger on Sunday, Dec. 15. According to CNS, “Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to St. Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City on Dec. 9 and Dec. 12, 1531, saying she wanted a church built in her honor on that hill. The bishop, who originally ignored Juan Diego, asked for a sign from her and Mary produced enough roses in December to fill his tilma, a type of outer garment. When he emptied the cloak and the roses fell in front of the bishop, he found that she had left her image on the cloak, which remains today in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.” The feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is Dec. 12.
