A special Mass to mark 50th anniversary of Bishop Howard J. Hubbard's ordination to the priesthood was celebrated Oct. 20 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany. Bishop Hubbard is also about to reach his 75th birthday, when he must submit his resignation as bishop to the Vatican; he has been Bishop of Albany for more than 36 years. Having been ordained in 1977 as the then-youngest bishop in the U.S., Bishop Hubbard is now the longest-tenured. The Albany Diocese covers 14 counties, with 127 parishes and more than 360,000 Catholics. Here, Knights of Columbus form an honor guard at the entrance to the cathedral. (Nate Whitchurch photo)
