THE ANNUAL CHRISM MASS at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany is the liturgy at which sacred oils are blessed for use in sacraments all year in the Albany Diocese. Sacred chrism is used at baptisms, ordinations, to anoint new Catholics and for the sacrament of anointing of the sick. The Mass was celebrated April 6 by Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger. Here, Bishop Scharfenberger breathes over an urn filled with oil to symbolize the infusion of the Holy Spirit. See more photos in The Evangelist's print edition. (NATE WHITCHURCH PHOTO)
