WORD OF FAITH

The universal call to holiness calls us to love universally!

As we prepare to enter into the season of Lent this coming Ash Wednesday, a short examination of conscience will help us embrace more fully the universal call to holiness.

Jesus comes to fulfill the law and the prophets

What is God asking of us, and why are we asked to do it?

Called to be great Christians!

We are not called to be great humanitarians. We are called to become great Christians!

Strength in weakness

The central theme, as I perceive it, in all three of the readings (and even in the responsorial psalm) offered for our reflection on this Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time is strength in weakness.

Who is the Kingdom of God?

The focus Sunday in the Gospel we proclaim from the Evangelist Saint Matthew is clearly on the Kingdom of God.

Do we know who we are?

Instead of beginning our focus on the event which is detailed in the Gospel this Sunday, namely the inauguration of the Lord Jesus’ ministry and the definitive declaration of his union with the Blessed Trinity by God the Father, I’d like us to examine the other main figure in Sunday’s …

The Epiphany of the Lord

How will we regift the ultimate gift?

Come let us adore him!

Rejoice, for the Lord is near!

Advent, like Lent, is a season of preparation and part of this preparation is conversion and penance.

Stay awake and let God stir your soul!

Advent is a time for soul stirring! Our readings for this first Sunday of the new liturgical year are rousing and exciting with a hint of foreboding.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

As Americans we can find it very difficult to relate to this feast because we have no experience of living with a “king.”

Become a fire of healing and justice!

As we saw last week, we are moving swiftly to the end of this Liturgical Year. Jesus is turning up the heat, if you will, by raising our awareness about what is vital and what will be swept away at the end of the “age.”
