WORK OF ART

89-year-old thrives in second calling

Arthur Bartlett wanted to stay busy in his retirement.

Bassi keeps on smiling in retirement

While Mrs. Bassi has technically retired from three jobs, the parishioner at St. Paul’s parish in Schenectady has found that each retirement wasn’t the closing of a book — as it often can appear — but the beginning of her next chapter in life.

PERSPECTIVE

Shine a light in darkness

A prisoner of a Nazi concentration camp looked out through an opening in his cell as the dawn was approaching. Depressed and desperate, he then saw a light go on in a distant farmhouse. The thought came to him, “A light shines in the darkness.”

How Catholics can avoid being victimized by scams

Catholics across the Albany Diocese are being contacted by alleged tax collectors, computer software companies or government agencies. These are not legitimate calls; the callers are scammers, and parishioners everywhere are potential victims.

Local sister now in leadership for Sisters of Mercy Northeast

In recent bulletins, St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart parishes in Albany listed good news and bad news. The good news was that parish outreach/social ministry coordinator Sister Peg Sullivan, RSM, had been elected to the leadership team of her religious order, the Sisters of Mercy of the Northeast.
