The Diocese of Albany Pastoral Care Ministry invites you to spend the day with your Pastoral Care Ministry colleagues and friends as we renew our skills and spirits during the Pastoral Care Ministers Retreat on June 11 from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Carondelet Hospitality Center (385 Watervliet-Shaker Road).
Sister Barbara Quinn, RSCJ, a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada Province, will guide the theme of the day, “The Hidden Face of Hope.”
“In this time in our country, our church, and our world, so many of us are searching for hope. And yet, hope can seem elusive,” Sister Barbara said. “Our day will focus on the search for hope in sometimes unexpected places, in surprising ways, and importantly, in the company of others.”
From 2011-24, Sister Barbara served as the Associate Director of Spiritual Formation at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM). She continues to offer retreats, presentations, teaching and spiritual direction. Prior to coming to STM, Sister Barbara served for 10 years as the founding director of the Center for Christian Spirituality at the University of San Diego.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Rosemont College in Rosemont, Pa., a Master of Divinity from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology, formerly in Cambridge, Mass., and now at Boston College under the umbrella of STM, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Ill. She has worked in higher education at D’Youville University in Buffalo, at the University of San Diego in California and now at the B.C. Cough School of Theology and Ministry.
Sister Barbara has taught on all levels and has done administrative work on diocesan, college, elementary school and parish levels. She was the founder of Leadership Development for Ministry in Buffalo, a formation program to train laity from various Christian denominations for leadership in their churches. She continued to develop and administer a similar program in Anchorage, Alaska, and has extensive experience in preaching and in adult education. She has facilitated retreats and days of renewal in the U.S., Uganda, France, Ireland, Australia, Japan and India.
The non-refundable admission fee (unless the event is canceled) is $30 for the retreat, and includes light breakfast fare and a complimentary lunch. Payment may be sent by check to: Office for Discipleship Formation, 40 N. Main Ave., Albany, N.Y., 12203 or paid the day of the program.
