Schenectady

Stuffed Animal Collection and Meal Delivery for Street Soldiers, Schenectady: Street Soldiers is a grassroots group of volunteers helping the community. Our tri-parish community (Our Lady of Grace in Ballston Lake, Immaculate Conception in Glenville, and St. Joseph’s in Scotia) will be collecting stuffed animals for children to be delivered on May 17. We will also be transporting food to be delivered on the same day. The best types of meals are goulash, chili, spaghetti and meatballs, hot dogs, beans, mac and cheese, and beef stew. We will need parishioners to help transport the food and to volunteer for the day; approximately 3-5:30 p.m. at Street Soldiers.

Glenville

Tag Sale at Immaculate Conception Church (400 Saratoga Road) sponsored by the Rosary Altar Society of the Tri-Parish community of Our Lady of Grace, Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph’s Church. Join us on Friday, May 15, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. We will then reopen from 12:30-2 p.m. for a bag sale. We will be selling housewares, sports equipment, linens, pocketbooks, craft items, clothing, books and toys. There will also be a bake sale, raffle items and a lottery ticket tree. All are welcome!

Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Build at St. Mary’s Church, Crescent (86 Church Hill Road): St. Edward the Confessor (569 Clifton Park Center Road) is partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to bring another year of bed building! Sleep in Heavenly Peace helps build beds for children sleeping on the floor. This year, we will meet at St. Mary’s, Crescent and will offer two time slots for the build. The first slot will be from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and the second from 12-3 p.m. Registration is required! Contact the parish office at (518) 371-7372 for sign-up details. More information can also be found in the St. Edward’s atrium. Donations of new twin-sized bedding or monetary donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the parish office.

Field of Flags for Memorial Day and Veterans Day Displays: The Latham-Colonie Columbiettes and our Brother Knights will be installing memorial flags on May 23 for two weeks in honor of our military family members and friends. Flags will be placed on the front lawn of the Knights of Columbus Council in Latham. Flags are $30 per display event or $50 for both display events — Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Thirty flags are available for sponsorship this year. For information, please email Kathy Majer ([email protected]). Annual Memorial Day Cemetery Mass celebrated by Historic St. Joseph’s Church at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Cemetery (100 Kings Road). In the event of inclement weather, the Mass will be held at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church (600 State St.). The public is cordially invited. There will not be a 12:15 p.m. Mass on May 25 and the church and parish offices will be closed. For more information, call (518) 374-4466, ext. 13.

Clergy vs Youth Wiffle Ball at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School (2600 Albany St., Schenectady) at 6 p.m. Come watch the clergy take on the youth in what promises to be an unforgettable game. This game is open to all middle- and high-school students. Free admission, donations accepted. Hosted by St. Paul the Apostle Church. Barbecue Chicken dinner sponsored by St. Mary’s Church, Crescent at 5:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Dinner will consist of barbecue chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad, tossed salad, corn on the cob, beverages, and dessert. Gentle Woman of Praise Chapter Meal at Wolferts Roost Country Club (120 Van Rensselaer Blvd.) from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. All ladies age 15 and older are invited to join us for a day of fun! Our speaker is Kim Rodriguez-Torres, who has worked as a Catholic school teacher, assisted on the boards of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the Diocese of Orlando and Archdiocese of Miami, and is the founder of “Bella’s Blanket of Blessings.” Kim will share the power of prayer, the love of God and the mission of Christ.
