Schenectady

Stuffed Animal Collection and Meal Delivery for Street Soldiers, Schenectady: Street Soldiers is a grassroots group of volunteers helping the community. Our tri-parish community (Our Lady of Grace in Ballston Lake, Immaculate Conception in Glenville, and St. Joseph’s in Scotia) will be collecting stuffed animals for children to be delivered on May 17. We also will be transporting food to be delivered on May 17. The best types of meals are goulash, chili, spaghetti and meatballs, hot dogs, beans, mac and cheese, and beef stew. We will need parishioners to help transport the food and to volunteer for the day; approximately 3-5:30 p.m. at Street Soldiers.

Carnations Sale For Birthright at Our Lady of Grace Church (73 Midline Road): Birthright of Ballston Spa will be offering fresh carnations for a $1 donation after Mass at Our Lady of Grace on Sunday, May 10, in celebration of Mother’s Day. The proceeds from this sale will benefit pregnant women in difficult situations. Your continued support is truly appreciated.

Bring Your Mom to Breakfast: The Latham-Colonie Columbiettes are hosting our Mother’s Day Breakfast Buffet from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus Council (328 Troy-Schenectady Road). The menu includes scrambled eggs, an omelet station, home fries, corned beef hash, bacon and sausage, pancakes and French toast served with warm syrup, a variety of cereals and juices, fruit and hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Tag Sale at Immaculate Conception Church (400 Saratoga Road) sponsored by the Rosary Altar Society of the Tri-Parish community of Our Lady of Grace, Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph’s Church. Join us on Friday, May 15, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. We will then reopen from 12:30-2 p.m. for a bag sale. We will be selling housewares, sports equipment, linens, pocketbooks, craft items, clothing, books and toys. There will also be a bake sale, raffle items and a lottery ticket tree. All are welcome!

Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Build at St. Mary’s Church, Crescent (86 Church Hill Road): St. Edward the Confessor (569 Clifton Park Center Road) is partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to bring another year of bed building! Sleep in Heavenly Peace helps build beds for children sleeping on the floor. This year, we will meet at St. Mary’s Crescent and will offer two time slots for the build. The first slot will be from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and the second from 12-3 p.m. Registration is required! Contact the parish office at (518) 371-7372 for sign-up de­tails. A Special Anointing of the Sick Mass at Immaculate Conception Church (400 Saratoga Road) at 11 a.m. All are invited to a special Mass on Monday, May 18, where the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be administered. This healing sacrament is for all those experiencing any challenge in body, mind, or spirit, young or old, homebound or not. A luncheon will be served in the parish hall after Mass. Field of Flags for Memorial Day and Veterans Day Displays: The Latham-Colonie Columbiettes and our Brother Knights will be installing memorial flags on May 23 for two weeks in honor of our military family members and friends. Flags will be placed on the front lawn of the Knights of Columbus Council in Latham. Flags are $30 per display event or $50 for both display events — Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
