The Schenectady Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Division 1, announced that Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, will visit Schenectady from April 17-18 to headline the division’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Bishop Mark O’Connell will celebrate a special Mass at St. Luke’s Church in Schenectady on April 17 at 1 p.m. in honor of the visit by Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland’s ambassador to the United States, and the 125th anniversary of the Schenectady Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), JFK Division 1.

The Mass will bring together local leaders, members of the Irish-American community, and faithful from across the Capital Region to celebrate a historic milestone and recognize the enduring ties between Ireland and the region.

Founded in 1901, the Schenectady Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians have played a vital role in promoting Irish heritage, Catholic faith and charitable service. The organization’s 125th anniversary marks a significant moment in its legacy of leadership and community engagement.

“Having this Mass celebrated by Bishop O’Connell and welcoming Ambassador Byrne Nason as we mark 125 years of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Schenectady is a powerful recognition of our dedication to faith, heritage and service, which has strengthened this community for generations,” said Kim DePeaux, LAOH president.

The Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Church under the leadership of Father Dominic Isopo, pastor.

“We are grateful to Father Isopo for his leadership and hospitality in hosting this special Mass and celebration,” said Denise Murphy McGraw, Mistress of Arms of the Schenectady LAOH. “St. Luke’s continues to serve as a cornerstone of faith and community in Schenectady.

“This moment reflects something larger than an anniversary. It highlights the enduring connection between Ireland and the Capital Region and the role organizations like the LAOH continue to play in strengthening both faith and community life.”
