Prayer Rally set for Schenectady’s Central Park
The Prayer Rally for World Peace is set for Oct. 4 in Schenectady’s Central Park at the Spain-American War Memorial (the statue of the guardsman holding the rifle) on Monument Hill overlooking the pond. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held the following Saturday.
The Rosary for World Peace will begin at 11 a.m., which includes prayers for peace by the following three popes: John Paul II, Paul VI and John XXIII. It also includes a Litany for World Peace and concludes with the Saint Francis “Prayer for Peace.”
Other faiths are encouraged to share their peaceful intentions, asking God for peace, justice, freedom and respect/protection for life and the environment. Faith symbols and banners are also encouraged to be displayed, as long as they worship/praise God, the Creator of the universe, and aren’t offensive and/or disrespectful to anyone, country and/or population.
In addition to prayers, those who can afford it should offer financial support for humanitarian organizations that work to alleviate human suffering. In fact, as believers, in addition to prayer, Jesus called us to be Good Samaritans; hence, we must take concrete actions and do everything in our power to help our brothers/sisters in need. That is why on Aug, 12, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio (who is also head of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA), called for a special collection to support the Catholic Church’s response to the growing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip as the war between Israel and Hamas continues to rage on.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)
