March Madness Spades Tournament & Social Event at Sacred Heart Church (15 Liberty St.) from 5-9 p.m. in the parish center. Start time for prizes is at 5:30 p.m. Chips, soda and coffee are included with a $10 entry fee. Food will be available at an additional cost. First prize wins $50; second wins $30. Single-elimination tournament. Bring a partner or random pairings for singles. Side games and other games are welcome. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council. All proceeds benefit the Seminarian Scholarships.

Mary’s Yes with Father Chris Alar, MIC, at St. Mary’s Church (80 Mansion St.) at 1:30 p.m. sharp. Join us for a talk with Father Chris about the opportunities for us to say “Yes” to Mary. This event is free, but any donations will go directly to New Life Maternity Home, a space for pregnant and new moms in need of housing. Lenten Retreat led by Sister Marilyn R. Vassallo, JCL, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish Center (2777 Albany St.) from 9-11 a.m. Sister Marilyn offers a retreat on the importance of recovering silence in our own lives. Through reflection and sharing we will rediscover a deeper awareness of the presence of God in our lives, families, church and world. Sister Marilyn, a canon lawyer, has served multiple dioceses across the country with her spiritual guidance and legal intellect, including in the Albany Diocesan Tribunal Office as Defender of the Bond.

Lenten Retreat at Sacred Heart Church (310 Spring Ave.) from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The theme of the retreat is “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” based on the book by Venerable Fulton J Sheen. Vaffeldagen Waffle Day: Scandinavian Celebration for the Feast of the Annunciation at St. Adalbert Parish Center (570 Lansing St.) at 12 p.m. The Knights of Columbus Council #201 is starting a new tradition with a long-time Catholic celebration from Scandinavia, Vaffeldagen Waffle Day! Come grab some delicious waffles with a variety of toppings. We’ll also have sausage, chicken tenders, dessert, coffee, tea, etc. Our guest speaker will be Simon McGuinness from Birthright Schenectady. Cost of admission is a donation of any baby item for the Baby Shower for Life, or a goodwill offering that will go to Birthright of Schenectady.

The College of Saint Rose Alumni Spring Event at the Turf Tavern Restaurant (40 Mohawk Ave.). Cocktail hour will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guest speaker is Jacqueline Clute, executive director of St. Luke’s Daily Bread Food Pantry. Spring Bake Sale at St. Adalbert Church (550 Lansing St.) in the parish center. Join us Saturday, April 12, from 12-3 p.m., and Sunday, April 13, from 12-1:30 p.m. Featured items for sale include our parish-baked babka (Polish sweet bread), pies, pizzas (Polish and breakfast), and a variety of other baked goods. All proceeds go to the bake sale’s host: the Altar Rosary & Holy Name Societies.

Semi-Annual Spring Stamp & Postal History Show at Albany American Legion (4 Everett Road Extension) from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Event features 16 dealers with exhibit stamps, covers, postcards, postal history and ephemera materials. Children will receive free packets of stamps and covers. Dealers will be available to give real market values for any family stamp collections at no charge. Hosted by the Fort Orange Stamp Club (FOSC).
