Columbus, Ohio — At the congregation’s Third General Chapter in 2022, the Dominican Sisters of Peace committed to foster and create cultures of inclusion in their churches and communities. Sister Carol Davis, OP, has continued this work for five decades and has also provided leadership to fellow sisters at the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

Sister Carol currently serves and supports the congregation as part of a five-member leadership team and is the liaison between the Dominican Sisters of Peace group and committees related to governance, congregation-wide meetings, department leaders and mission-group coordinators. In addition, she provides leadership to the Sansbury Care Center, a skilled and personal care facility serving religious and lay women in rural Springfield, Ky., which is located adjacent to the historic St. Catharine (Ky.) motherhouse. Sister Carol also plans and facilitates bi-annual meetings with the leadership and mission group coordinators.

She has extensive experience and ministry in the area of sexual abuse and has conducted training for the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services in New York on topics such as working with survivors of sexual abuse and trauma informed care. Sister Carol also designed and implemented a group treatment program for survivors of sexual abuse at an outpatient chemical dependency treatment agency in Albany. She has led retreats for survivors of sexual abuse in New York, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, and New Mexico. At the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center in Niskayuna and across the country, she led groups and individuals in dreamwork to explore the meaning and guidance provided nightly in their dreams.

Sister Carol has been on the Board of Directors with the U.S. Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking and was part of the team that led a retreat for human trafficking survivors in Columbus, Ohio, at St. Therese’s Shrine. She also assisted at a recovery weekend of “Women Healing Women” on the Tohono O’odham Reservation in Tucson, Ariz.

She has been a dedicated proponent for victims of abuse and says, “I have had the privilege of accompanying women and men on their healing journeys. Some have experienced child abuse, neglect, rape, kidnapping, trafficking, a family member has been murdered or committed suicide, the horror of 9-11 and more. I have found they are brave, shining souls, finding their voices and claiming life.”

Sister Carol relocated to Columbus from upstate New York in 2022 after her election to congregational leadership. She received her master’s in religious studies from Villanova University in Philadelphia, the city where she was born, and a bachelor’s in religious studies from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla.
