Scouts take a ‘Faith Hike’ in Saratoga
On March 29, 10 Scouts from Albany Scouting Troop 1011 traveled to Saratoga Springs and participated in a “Faith Hike” sponsored by the Albany Diocese’s Catholic Committee on Scouting. On the walk, Scouts visited places of worship to learn about different beliefs. The “Duty to God” component in Scouting includes participating in their own faiths, while respecting and honoring each other’s beliefs. A Faith Hike lets Scouts learn about these beliefs in a positive way, encouraging respect and building understanding.
Despite the cold and rainy weather, the Scouts toured a number of organizations, visiting St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the First Baptist Church, Bethesda Episcopal Church and Temple Sinai, where representatives provided a short tour and explained a few key points regarding the foundations of their faith beliefs. Some provided refreshments and gift bags. The Scouts were able to see how others practice their faith and what is important to them.
SCOUT RETREAT
As Confirmation season approaches, the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting is pleased to announce its annual daylong retreat at the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville on Saturday, May 3. This retreat is open to all youth seeking to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation through their parishes, but are unable to attend their locally scheduled retreats due to conflicts. The shrine serves as a beautiful setting for reflection and interacting with other youth, including Scouts from throughout the Capital District who have completed the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem, which will be awarded at this event. Learning modules will include ways to pray, Gifts of the Holy Spirit and a Scoutcraft skills session. A Celebration of the Eucharist is part of the retreat experience.

Above, the Scouts and Scouters are shown at last year’s retreat with Father Daniel McHale (back row, far r.), who officiated the Mass and presented the religious emblems and adult volunteer awards.
Online registration is now open and can be accessed through this link: www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/2025-catholic-scout-and-confirmandi-retreat. The cost is $10 per person to cover lunch and related event materials. The committee is grateful to Stewart’s Holiday Match program for providing a grant in support of this event.
