‘FORGIVE ME’
Local artist Vince Forte Jr., created the painting “Forgive Me” that will be used for midday meditation on Good Friday at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Niskayuna.
In a text shared with The Evangelist, Forte said: “I painted this as a Lenten meditation over two Lenten periods. The view is that of the good thief and thus invites placing yourself in this role of the story. You are the one asking for forgiveness.
“Notice Christ reaches out to both thieves. The other thief’s hands do not reach back toward Christ but the good thief does reach out.
“This is the moment you have asked for forgiveness and Christ has forgiven you. Christ’s face is peaceful and welcoming despite his being crucified. He shares your suffering and salvation.
“The skin of the good thief is brighter symbolizing forgiveness already at work in you.
“In Jerusalem, seen in the valley below, people are living their daily life. You are already forgotten by this world, but not by God.”
Forte Jr., a former engineer and professional artist since 2013, is the son of Vince Forte Sr., who was well known in the Capital District for his skill as an artist of many mediums, including the famed bronze bust of World War I hero Sergeant Henry Johnson in Albany’s Washington Park.
