La Salle Institute installs new president at Mass
La Salle Institute, which is celebrating 175 years of providing exceptional education in the Capital Region, welcomed their new school president, Kevin T. Calacone ’99, with an installation Mass on Nov. 24. The Mass was officiated by Father Robert Longobucco, Vicar General for the Diocese of Albany, and attended by La Salle staff and faculty, administration, alumni, parents, current students, local dignitaries, and several Christian Brothers and priests of local parishes.
During the installation, Calacone was presented with the Presidential Medallion. The medallion is given as a gift in commemoration of the school's 175th anniversary, and the chain contains 18 raw blue sapphires which signify the 18 decades La Salle Institute has been in existence. The medal depicts St. John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers and founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, and the back of the medallion is engraved with Calacone’s motto of office, “Vive Jesum in Cordibus Nostris,” which translates to “Live Jesus in Our Hearts.”
