A GOLDEN DAY!
Teresian House is feeling golden.
On May 21, Teresian House in Albany marked its golden 50th anniversary. The day was celebrated with a Rededication Mass, celebrated by Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, and a reception with staff and residents.
“It was incredibly moving to witness Teresian House celebrate 50 years of compassionate care and service,” said Frank Yeboah, administrator of Teresian House. “This milestone is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff, the resilience and spirit of our residents, and the unwavering support of our community.”
Teresian House is a faith-based, elderly care facility sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany and served by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. The organization’s mission is to “provide the elderly with the highest quality continuum of services to enhance their physical, spiritual and emotional well-being,” a goal it has been living out since opening in 1974.
The anniversary day began with a special lunch prepared for both residents and staff, followed by the Rededication Mass held in the Teresian House Chapel at 5 p.m. The Mass was attended by the Teresian House Board of Directors, the Foundation Board, the Carmelite Sisters, department heads and diocesan priests.
To ensure that all residents and staff could join, the Mass was livestreamed and broadcast to all TVs in common areas. Following the Mass, the sisters visited all units and conducted a special blessing and sprinkling of holy water, rededicating each unit. Bishop Scharfenberger also conducted a blessing on the first floor, rededicating the building and reaffirming the Teresian House mission.
Added Yeboah: “Teresian House has always been a place where we foster a sense of family, dignity, and love, and this celebration reaffirms our commitment to continue this legacy for many years to come.”
