St. Mary’s School in Ballston Spa has announced that 17 of its students have become published authors through a national student-publishing program. As part of the publishing process, students in fourth grade planned, wrote and illustrated their own book through a free publishing program with Studentreasures Publishing. The title of their book is “Do You Know Who the Iroquois Were?”
The students of Brittany DuQuette’s class worked hard on their books for six weeks. The idea for their book started when DuQuette wanted to shake up her annual Iroquois project this year. She wrote down different topics about the Iroquois on pieces of paper for students to choose at random. These topics would be what students would research, write about, and base their illustrations on.
“It was really rewarding to see how excited my students were about this project,” DuQuette said. “I announced the book back in September and students could not wait to get started. My students put so much time and effort into the research for their assigned topics to make their book pages informative to readers. I look forward to creating another book with my class next year.”
St. Mary’s School — with the motto “A Small School with a Big Heart” — is a small, private, Catholic, co-ed Pre-K through fifth grade school located in the heart of Ballston Spa. Empowered through faith, SMS strives to educate the “whole child” with a strong academic and extracurricular experience to set young students up for success.
For more than 25 years, Studentreasures has helped over 16 million students become proud, published authors. Named the “best free school publishing program,” Studentreasures provides engaging, hands-on writing lessons in classrooms across the United States and Canada.
