11 women make commitment as Apostles of the Sisters of the Resurrection
On Sunday, Oct. 29, 11 women made their Promise of Commitment as Apostles of the Sisters of the Resurrection at the sisters’ chapel in Castleton.
Nine women — Evelyn Goetz, Vivian Williams, Mary Ann Servidio, Kathleen Cornett, Patricia Cliento, Joan Aveni, Kelly Anne Smith, Elise Janssen and Joan Doherty — from St. Columba’s Church in Hopewell Junction (Archdiocese of New York) were instructed by Sister Cherree Ann Power, CR, superior of convents in Hopewell Junction. And two women — Brianna Starkey and Karen Anne Valencia — from St. Veronica’s Church in Howell, N.J. (Diocese of Trenton) were instructed by Sister Ann Elizabeth Norton, CR, who traveled from Castleton to instruct the women in New Jersey.
These women have fulfilled the formation needed to make their promises in order to be united spiritually to the congregation according to the rule approved for them by the church. Father David Kashen, Order of Friars Minor Conventual, was the celebrant and blessed the crosses and rule books they received as symbols of their commitment to the Risen Christ.
They also received scarves which portray the beatification celebration of Blessed Celine Borzecka, foundress of the Sisters of the Resurrection, which took place on Oct. 27, 2007 in Rome. Everyone also celebrated the birth of Blessed Mother Celine, who was born Oct. 29, 1833.
