Deacon Robert R. Brady, 96

Deacon Robert R. Brady, 96, of Kingsway Manor, previously of Avila Retirement Community and Scotia, died peacefully surrounded by his children on Jan. 6.

Brady was born on Oct. 11, 1926, to the late Harry F. and Gertrude (Crowell) Brady and grew up in Queens Village, Long Island. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola in 1944 and St. John’s University in 1951. He also pursued graduate studies in theology at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry. At the end of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.

After earning his bachelor’s in Business Administration, Brady embarked on a 30-year career in personnel management. He started with the Fairchild Camera and Instrument Company in Jamaica and Syosset before moving to the General Electric Company in Cincinnati and Schenectady. Brady’s career continued with the State of New York in the Civil Service Department, the Department of Agriculture and Markets, and as director of Personnel for the Division of Criminal Justice Services, from which he retired in 1983. For many years, Brady also owned Brady Photography, specializing in wedding photography.

Brady was ordained to the Diaconate of the Albany Diocese on Oct. 4, 1986, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He served as deacon for many years at St. Joseph’s in Scotia, and later at St. Anthony’s. Brady also served in pastoral care at the Glendale Nursing Home for 15 years.

Brady was predeceased by Beverly, his wife of 58 years, and his sister, Jane Brady Creed. He is survived by his children: Michael (Stacey) Brady of Destin, Fla., and Maureen (Michael) Busch of Stow, Mass., and grandchildren: Michael Jr., Sean and Rachel Busch, Samantha Brady Yarbrough and Caroline Brady.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of both Kingsway Manor and Kingsway Arms as well as Community Hospice for their loving and compassionate care and to Anna Connor for a million simple kindnesses.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 12 at St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia followed by burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
