Advent Lessons and Carols at the Cathedral of the Immacu­late Conception (125 Eagle St.) at 7 p.m. Cathedral choir director, Tim Reno, will lead the choir and congregation in singing the haunting melodies of Advent and Christmas as we listen to the prophecies and stories of the incarnation of God.

St. Nicholas Festival: Join us at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake (31 Elm St.) for this annual Christmas festival! Join us Friday, Dec. 15, for a reading from Santa at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 16, will be a craft and gift sale from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 17, will be a pancake breakfast and continuation of the craft and gift sale from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Prayer Service of the Longest Night/Blue Christmas at St. John the Baptist Church (1025 Kinderhook St.) at 6 p.m. For many, the Advent and Christmas seasons are not very merry. In addition to those who have lost a loved one or a job, are those who may be away from home or are just down because of the short daylight hours. For anyone who struggles this time of year, we will be offering a prayer service of readings and songs as we gather together to pray for each other.
