Women’s Recovery Retreat

A weekend for women in recovery at Pyramid Life Center in Paradox. Join author and teacher Diane Cameron for a weekend of inspiration and fellowship for all recovering women. This retreat is for women of all ages, from all recovery programs. Bring your friends, your sponsor, your sponsee. You can look forward to meeting a fabulous group of women and lots of sharing, learning and laughter. We’ll talk about our traditional recovery process and lots of new ideas and ways of living our recovery. We’ll touch on all the things that come up in our recovery lives: transferring addictions, making a spiritual life, relationships, money, our work, our bodies and how we get ready to get older. This weekend retreat will include an opening session on Friday night after dinner, three “conferences” on Saturday, and a closing session on Sunday. Additional optional sessions include writing, yoga dance and spiritual direction, plus the centerpiece of Pyramid Life Center: the stunning beauty of the lake and mountains. Many have called Pyramid Lake one of the “thin places” where heaven touches the earth. You also will have time to enjoy nature walks and the waterfront to swim, kayak or canoe. For more information on housing or registration, contact Pyramid Life Center. For questions, please call Cameron at (518) 269-2255.

SEPTEMBER

Sept. 8-10

Stillpoint Retreat

Stillpoint: Creating Calm amid the Chaos. The world moves at breakneck speed and expects us to do the same. Why not step outside the chaos and give yourself a weekend to nourish your body, mind and soul? As we enter the beautiful fall season at Pyramid Life Center, there’s no better time or place to reclaim your serenity with this annual retreat. Join writer and retreat leader Mary DeTurris Poust for the fifth Stillpoint Retreat, which offers participants not only spiritual practices to help discover the divine in the everyday but the time and space to explore and dive deep. We will dabble in a little of everything: prayer, journaling, creativity, guided meditation, music, movement and more. The weekend is anchored by presentations to help participants refocus their spiritual lives and guidance on how to put practices into place amid everyday life. Optional yoga classes will be offered by DeTurris Poust, who is also a certified yoga teacher.

Our annual Saturday night bonfire (weather permitting) is a favorite way to connect with our growing Stillpoint community. A period of silence will be observed in the early mornings and through breakfast, providing another beautiful way to connect with the still, small voice of the Spirit. DeTurris Poust is a writer, retreat leader, and yoga teacher living in the Capital Region. Her first experience of PLC was 15 years ago as a participant in the Merton in the Mountains silent retreat led by the beloved Walt Chura. Expect to find plenty of Merton (and quite a bit of Walt) in DeTurris Poust’s Stillpoint retreat experience.

Sept. 10-15

Fall Writer Fest

Enjoy a rigorous writing experience in a retreat setting. Workshops will be offered in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and more – including one workshop for those with a work-in-progress. Full morning workshops, brief afternoon seminars, lots of free time, and evening readings. Writers pre-register for the morning workshops; afternoon seminars are on a walk-in basis.

Sept. 15-17

Fall Explorer Weekend

Explorer Weekends are the best way to experience Pyramid Lake for friends and family looking to get out and live a little. The Fall Explorer Weekend is an all-inclusive package with accommodations, dining, and all of Pyramid Life Center’s amenities included for one low price. Wake up to the leaves falling around you after a great night in our historic lodge, rustic cabins or studio cabins. Enjoy an easy weekend getaway with swimming, hiking, gathering at the fire, or simply reading a book on the shore with our Fall Explorer Weekend!

Spiritual Journaling

Journaling as a spiritual practice is a tangible way to connect with the God of your understanding. Writing to your Higher Power on a regular basis — along with re-reading your journal to see how those prayers are being answered — helps you grow in the realization that you are deeply loved and cared for by God. It also amps up your gratitude by helping you appreciate your own gifts, talents and priorities. Join us this weekend to start or re-energize your own practice, as well as be inspired and renewed by the natural beauty of Pyramid Life Center. Anne Samson leads classes on Journaling as a spiritual practice in the Albany area, and is the author of “Journaling as a Spiritual Practice” and “Abba House & Me: Prayer Changes Everything.” She is also a freelance magazine writer, publishing on a variety of topics. Samson is an energy healer and has practiced 12 Step Recovery for over 30 years.
