And the school did just that with its Casino Night Prom on June 11, which included a red carpet walk and memorabilia raffle that benefitted the BMHS Students Scholarship Fund.
In February, Bishop Maginn High School, which has provided quality education to its students since its founding in 1977, announced it was closing at the end of the 2021-22 school year due to low enrollment and the rising cost of education.
Sue Silverstein Gilligan, director of Campus Ministry and Community Service and Theology Department Chair at the school, said of the prom: “We wanted to create an event that would lessen the impact of the final days of BMHS. I scheduled the event after the last day of classes so the students would have something amazing to look forward to! Jon Katz and The Army of Good (a major donor to the school) raised nearly $7,000 to provide the students with the event of their lifetime.”
For the school’s last prom, grades 9-12 were invited to this non-traditional event, which included games, prizes, food, dancing and surprises.
