Mornings are always busy at St. Pius X School in Loudonville, where every day the doors open for almost 500 children who represent 31 school districts across the Capital Region. But you could feel the difference in the energy in the morning of May 25 as the kids came rushing in. Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger was coming for a visit! Smiling and excited faces, dress uniforms for the entire student body, and lots of last-minute preparation in their classrooms let everyone know this was a special day.

The reason for the Bishop’s visit was the blessing of the school’s new Science Lab, designed for students in Grades 5-8. Bishop Scharfenberger was treated to a tour of the school before joining the seventh and eighth graders for a prayer service and blessing of the new classroom. This state-of-the art lab provides a high-school level experience for St. Pius X’s middle schoolers. The expansive space contains two distinct sections: one for lecture and one for practical science experimentation. The six-figure project took several months to complete and the students and faculty could not be more pleased with the result!

Afterwards, the entire student body and faculty assembled outside for a picture and received the Bishop’s blessing as he concluded his visit.
