Jeanette May elected to serve on National Board of the Christ Child Society
“We are thrilled to have Jeanette May on our board leadership team. As an active member, Jeanette has had so much to share, both personally and professionally. We are fortunate to have her positive energy, expertise and experience to help guide our organization,” said Molly Fanning, past president of the society. “Her contributions will help us provide resources to aid children and families in 45 unique communities across the U.S. and help us to grow and thrive as a 135-year-old organization.
May had a fulfilling career as a registered nurse, working in a Catholic hospital in Schenectady as well as in a nursing home. She has also been a nurse educator, has held positions with the State Education Department and has supervised health-career programs.
As the oldest of seven children raised in an Irish Catholic family, she has always been nurturing, and credits her 80-year-old mother with encouraging her to join the Christ Child Society as a way to help children. May has also trained to become a foster mom and has performed respite care for primary caregivers of children.
Since joining the Christ Child Albany Chapter, May has served as president for several terms, has chaired fundraisers, as well as the chapter’s Comfort Bag Program to provide personal items to people living in area shelters. She has coordinated programs to adopt families for the holidays and has also written grants for the society’s community programs. She is most proud of the development of the Albany Chapter’s Literacy Program, initiating a partnership with a local scouting program and extending Christ Child’s services to all 14 counties in the Diocese.
