Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger announces the appointment of Kathy Barrans as communications director for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany (RCDA). Barrans comes to the RCDA after 26 years as a producer at WNYT-TV NewsChannel 13 in Albany.
“Kathy is an accomplished journalist who earned the respect of her colleagues and news sources due to the highly ethical way she approached her work,” Bishop Scharfenberger said. “Kathy will play an integral role in helping the Diocese of Albany tell our story throughout the Diocese and beyond, and I am very much looking forward to having her as part of our leadership team.”
Barrans said working for the Diocese will be a blessing: “I loved being part of the team at NewsChannel 13, but my faith means everything to me, and I love the idea of being able to use my job skills to help the Church. I look forward to working with the team at the Diocese.”
Barrans is active in her parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace/St. Margaret Cortona in Rotterdam, and Rotterdam Junction. She is a graduate of the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa., and worked as a reporter in radio and television before becoming a television news producer.
