HVCC announces free summer courses for high-school students
Joined by the leadership of New York State’s Parent Teacher Association and Coalition for Independent and Religious Schools, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) announced May 20 an unprecedented opportunity for local high school students and their families: all expenses – tuition, books and fees – associated with its more than 50 College in the High School courses offered this summer will be fully covered by a scholarship provided by the college.
“Students and their families have been facing enormous challenges these last two years and we owe HVCC an immense debt of gratitude for making these courses available free of charge,” said James D. Cultrara, director for Education at the New York State Catholic Conference and co-chairman of the New York State Coalition for Independent & Religious Schools.
Hudson Valley is making this offer to help 11th- and 12th-grade high school students jump start their college education this summer. The college usually offers its College in the High School courses at a reduced tuition rate, but this is the first time it has completely covered the cost of those courses. The college also announced no-cost academic enrichment courses for high school students aimed at preparing incoming college freshmen with skills to take on college-level math and English composition.
