Christ Sun of Justice Parish in Troy has taken on a special task as part of Lent. Steve Partisano, parishioner, has turned the parish’s old Christmas tree that was on display for Advent into a wooden cross for the celebration of Lent and Easter.
Partisano got the idea from “The Little Blue Book,” a book of reflections and readings for the Advent season, which mentioned how a cathedral in the Diocese of Saginaw (Mich.) transformed its Christmas tree into a cross for Lent. Partisano thought he could do the same for his parish.
Partisano first chopped off the branches of the tree and hand-sawed pieces of the tree off. Each week, Partisano organized the limbs into a display on the parish’s altar to show the transformation of the tree into the cross. The cross will be used as the centerpiece for the church’s Good Friday Liturgy.
