Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger celebrated a Mass with the Urdu Catholic Community of Albany on June 20 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
Members of the community have been concerned about persecution of Catholics in Pakistan and have been talking with Father Francis O’Connor of Blessed Sacrament and Deacon Walter Ayres, the director of Catholic Charities’ Commission on Peace and Justice, about the problem.
Bishop Scharfenberger also met with the group via a Zoom call, explaining there was no quick fix to the issue, but he did agree to meet with the community and celebrate Mass.
