Consecration to Mary is a spiritual exercise through which we receive graces to strengthen our Catholic spirituality and our ability to better serve Jesus and His Church. When we participate in Marian Consecration exercises, we strive to follow Mary’s example — her willingness to say “yes” to God’s will and to trust in God’s purpose and plan for her — while receiving graces to dedicate ourselves totally to Christ in a way that consecrates us to Him. One of the goals of Consecration is a renewed spirit of evangelization that opens our hearts to a closer personal relationship with Jesus through Mary’s help. People in every age have found that Marian Consecration brings them closer to God in a profound way.
To aid us in preparing for Consecration, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger (see letter below) recommends the book “33 Days to Morning Glory” by Father Michael E. Gaitley, MIC, which includes the works of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa and Pope St. John Paul II. The daily reading takes only 3-5 minutes and then is pondered during the rest of one’s day. The 33-day preparation can be done alone or in a group. Please take note of the following important dates:
• Thursday, Nov. 5: Start date of the book, “33 Days to Morning Glory”
• Tuesday, Dec. 8: The RCDA Marian Consecration Mass Event, 12:15 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
