Camp Breakaway for middle- and high-school students in the Diocese of Albany is going virtual for the first time from July 19-23.
The camp — which will have the same goal of giving youth the experience of growing closer to God — will cost $40 and includes a box filled with supplies, a T-shirt, a pair of goggles and, of course, ingredients to make s’mores.
“We thought we’d offer a taste of Breakaway for kids who have not had that experience,” said Brian Evers, director of Pyramid Life Center, where the camp is usually held. “I think it is going to be a real fun experience for the kids.”
Registration also includes a morning email with prayer, energizer and talks posted at 9 a.m., and Google Zoom meetings in the evenings for middle school (6:30-7:30 p.m.) and high school (8-9 p.m.). Evers said the theme of this year’s camp remains Vision 2020 even though it will be in a different format.
“Throughout the talks, they put on their vision goggles and (discuss) that whole idea of who does God see you as,” Evers said. “We know God made us in His image and what have we learned in this experience? Where have we seen God … and where is He calling me?”
