Catholic Schools Week Mass
Catholic Schools Week, which runs from Jan 26-Feb.1, kicks off in the Diocese of Albany with the Catholic Schools Week Mass and Awards Presentation at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. Father Robert Longobucco will be the celebrant.
“Quality Catholic education is available, affordable, and accessible in the Diocese of Albany and Catholic Schools Week is the perfect platform to spread this good news," said Giovanni Virgiglio, superintendent of schools."Our schools, each with their own unique charism and charm, have many activities and festivities planned for their communities. We will open the week united as a faith family with all of our schools at our annual diocesan liturgy at the Cathedral followed by our art show. All are welcome!”
Catholic school educators, friends of Catholic education and community partners will be honored at the Mass.
A student art show and reception will immediately follow the Mass at the Empire State Plaza, South Concourse. The national theme for the week is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” There will be daily themes of celebration starting on Sunday, which include celebrating your parish, community, students, nation, vocations, faculty, staff and volunteers and families. Sacred Heart School in Troy, for example, is using the theme of “Catholic Schools Are Out of This World,” and will have events every day at the school.
National Catholic Schools Week has been celebrated annually since 1974 with special liturgies, open house and other activities that highlight the importance of Catholic education.
