Catholic Central High School in Troy and Siena College have launched the “Crusader to Saint” Academic Partnership allowing senior-class students to take college-level courses on Siena’s campus, while completing their high school academic requirements.

Beginning in the fall of 2019, students who attend Catholic Central will be able to apply to the program and meet with Siena College admissions counselors to identify areas of interest and associated coursework. Students will be able to enroll in up to three courses per semester in business, management, history, political science and the arts, giving them the ability to earn up to 24 college credits during their senior year of high school through the program.

“This program will not only enhance the academic experience offered at Catholic Central, it brings together two of the Capital Region’s strongest academic institutions,” said Ridge Harris, chairman of the Catholic Central High School board of trustees. “We’re so excited for  our current and future students who will have the opportunity to participate in this amazing program.”

Siena College President Brother F. Edward Coughlin, OFM, added: “Siena will be pleased to welcome to our campus the Catholic Central seniors who are eager to begin their college journey. This will be an excellent opportunity for them to explore liberal arts education at the college level, to contemplate which major and career path could be a right fit for them, and how they can impact society for the better.”

The partnership was announced at a press conference Feb. 27 at Catholic Central’s Troy campus.

“We believe Catholic education is about unlocking potential and the opportunities this affords our high school students are sure to be endless,” said Giovanni Virgiglio, diocesan chancellor and superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Albany. “Partnerships are most powerful when our shared ministries to educate young adults beautifully align. One’s journey from Crusader to Saint will certainly create a cohort of graduates that will make the world a better place.”

Christopher Signor, principal of Catholic Central, said he expects students’ experience at the high school  “will be transformed” by the new program. “We’re proud to offer this program to Catholic Central students and their families, and are thankful for Siena’s partnership,” he said. “This unique program will expand the possibilities of the students who walk through these halls.”
