“Love as seen through Christ”

By Abigail Verhayden - | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

‘Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which He looks compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good,
Yours are the hands with which He blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are His body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which He looks compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.’

Valentine’s Day might have come and gone, but love is still on the mind. However, love is too often thought of as only romantic love. There are so many more types of love that are just as important, such as, friendship love, love for strangers, and, most importantly, Christ’s love for us and our love for?Him.?

The atmosphere during the Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons retreat was extraordinary. Students were split up into 15 groups, with a few kids from each grade in every group, to create 15 parts that, when put together, became a mural depicting the St. Teresa of Avila prayer. Any other day, each of those students would have been living in their own little world. However, juniors and seniors were seen helping middle-schoolers draw pictures of hands and feet as students shared supplies and discussed how to create the best mural possible. The student body worked together harmoniously, smiling and laughing while still creating incredible artwork. Some of the students might not have been as artistically gifted as others, yet in a way, this made the art even better.

The mix of different types of artwork creates a patchwork quilt that is a perfect symbol for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Each of us is different and has something unique to offer to the school, yet we love each other unconditionally.

Christ loves each of us because of our differences. He created us with distinctive qualities so that we each have something different to offer to the world and to each other. People, especially teenagers, often worry about standing out too much because of their differences.

However, Christ made us with these differences for a reason: He loves us.
