Father Francis McCloskey, 79
A funeral Mass was offered on Friday, Feb. 8 at the Cathedral for the Immaculate Conception in Albany for Father Francis McCloskey. Father McCloskey, 79, was born on Sept. 20, 1939 in Brooklyn to Francis and Sheila McCloskey. After attending high school at St. Augustine’s (Brooklyn) and St. Eunan’s in Ireland, Frank entered minor seminary at St. Peter’s College, Ireland and matriculated to Theological College, Washington D.C. In 1961, Father McCloskey was incardinated into the Diocese, and on May 20, 1963 was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Scully at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
After ordination, Father McCloskey was assigned as associate pastor to Sacred Heart, Cairo in 1963; St. Patrick’s, Athens and faculty St. Patrick’s High School in 1963; Annunciation, Ilion in 1965; St. Teresa’s, Albany and Chaplin of Albany Med in 1966; St. John’s, Rensselaer in 1969; St. Jude, Wynantskill in 1972; and St. Ambrose, Latham in 1974. Frank became pastor of St. Bridget’s, Copake Falls from 1977-81, then was assigned to working with charismatic groups in the Diocese.
