Reflecting on my Catholic education

It is spring and before I know it graduation will be here. All year I’ve been participating in events for the last time at St. Jude the Apostle School and with this group of classmates. Last week we participated in our last spring concert and we watched a slideshow of pictures from years’ past. I can’t help but reflect back on all of my years here and what they mean to me. 

I’ve been going to Catholic school my whole life. I am very thankful that my parents have sacrificed a lot to give me a Catholic education. These years have influenced me and helped me grow as a young man. As I’ve grown through my eight years at St. Jude the Apostle, I’ve realized what is most important to me, which is being the best I can be in all I do. I value God, my family, my friends, my teachers and getting good grades.  

While doing anything, I’ve found trying my best and being the best I can be is very important. Whether it’s studying for a test or trying to be a good athlete, I always strive to do my best and use my gifts from God. I have learned that if I believe in Jesus, He will guide me through the good times and the bad. Playing sports is an important part of my life and I always try to be the best I can be. Good sportsmanship, being a good teammate, respecting my coaches and encouraging others are all things I have learned and continue to work on. 

Church and my parish play a big role in my life, as I attend Mass every Sunday with my family and every Monday as a student. Father Anthony (Ligato), who is our pastor, has helped me make good decisions and grow as a Christian. Father Anthony’s homilies have always influenced my life and days at school. Whatever I hear or learn from his homily, I try to put into my daily life to help others and myself. My faith and believing in Jesus has helped me to make good decisions. I always try to think, “What would Jesus do?” before I act. I can’t help but think about how my life would be without Jesus and my experiences at St. Jude the Apostle School. 

Sean Moore is a sixth-grade student at St. Jude the Apostle School in Wynantskill. Outside of school, Sean enjoys playing basketball, baseball and spending time with his family. Sean plans on attending La Salle Institute in the fall.
