OBITUARY
Sister Janice Elizabeth O’Neil, CSJ
A funeral Mass was offered Oct. 30 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, for Sister Janice Elizabeth O’Neil, who died Oct. 24. She was 89 and had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 66 years.
A native of Saranac Lake, she served for 50 years as teacher and librarian in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses, including over three decades at St. Frances de Sales School in Herkimer.
Colleagues called her a genuine “people person” who took an interest in each individual who crossed her path and whose life was about relationships with God, her family, her fellow sisters and her many friends and colleagues. She enjoyed children and the elderly, showing compassion to both.
Survivors include her sister, Myrna O’Neil of Ogdensburg. Interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, Latham.
