OBITUARY
Sister Mary Carmel Lectora, OP
A memorial Mass will be held Nov. 1, 11 a.m., at the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center, Niskayuna, for Sister Mary Carmel Lectora, who died Oct. 12. She was 96 and had been a Dominican Sister of Peace (initially the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’Ricci) for 67 years.
A native of Guayama, Puerto Rico, she ministered in her order’s retreat houses in Florida, New York, Ohio, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Survivors include her sister, Esther J. Soffio.
A funeral Mass was held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 17. For more information on the upcoming memorial Mass, call the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center, (518) 393-4169.
