ST. ANTHONY'S PARISH in Schenectady celebrated "El Señor de los Milagros" — the Lord of Miracles — with a special Mass Oct. 7, followed by an outdoor procession and reception. The Lord of Miracles is the patron of the county of Peru and its capital, Lima.
The Lord of Miracles, an image of Christ crucified with Mary and St. John by His side and the Holy Spirit and God the Father above Him, was painted by an Angolan slave on the adobe wall of a storehouse in Lima in 1651. When an earthquake devastated Lima in 1655, the storehouse collapsed — all but the wall depicting El Señor de los Milagros. A chapel built there was destroyed in another quake in 1687, but the wall survived. A church was then built at the site. Processions honoring the Lord of Miracles are held in Peru each October.
