OBITUARY
Sister Joyce Gadoua, CSJ
A memorial Mass was offered Nov. 15 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, for Sister Joyce Gadoua, who died Nov. 8. She was 79 and had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 55 years.
A native of Cohoes, she worked as a customer service representative for New York Telephone Company before entering religious life. As a sister, she taught history and religion in schools of the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses and later served as a chaplain at Union College, Schenectady; in parish ministry in Norwich, N.Y., and Bloomington, Ill.; and as associate director of adult education for the Diocese of Peoria, Ill. In 1999, she co-founded the Clement Computer Lab at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, and she served as its director for the next 15 years. From 2014 until the time of her death, she was on the staff of the sisters’ communications office.
A multi-talented, creative woman, Sister Joyce was known for her musical and artistic skills and was well-versed in history, theology and politics as well. She was also an advocate on issues of peace and justice.
Survivors include her brother, Raymond. Sister Joyce was a participant in the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College and donated her remains for medical education and research.
