“Service” is the byword lately for young people across the Albany Diocese:

•  At Our Lady of Grace parish in Ballston Lake, VALERIE AND PHIL SIMPSON’S ninth-grade faith formation students took on the project of sanding and repainting the church sign;

•  Holy Trinity parish in Cohoes benefited from the efforts of eighth-graders from Cohoes Middle School and seniors from Cohoes High, who worked on the parish grounds as part of Global Youth Service Day;

•  Immaculate Conception in Glenville is planning a week-long service trip for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders July 16–20 in Springfield, Mass., organized through the Center for Ministry Development;

•  at Holy Cross in Morris, ANDREW MEYERS was selected as the junior representative to attend the American Legion’s Boy’s State summer leadership program, while ELIZABETH THOMPSON was selected as the representative to attend the Rotary Club’s youth leadership camp in June; and

•  Holy Cross parish in Salem notes that there’s an article in Holy Cross magazine about last summer’s parish intern, LUKE LAPEAN, describing his service at the parish.

In other news, All Saints on the Hudson parish in Mechanicville/Stillwater reports that six-year-old OLIVIA RILEY and her sister, EVE, age three, were upset to be finished with faith formation (what they call “Church school”) for the semester. Olivia said she loved hearing stories from the Bible, singing songs and learning prayers with her teacher, NADINE PERRAS.

“I like to be alone when I pray to God and Jesus and pray for the kids in Syria,” Olivia observed, and added, “Earth Day should be called ‘God Day,’ because He made the Earth.”
