The par­ish had a class in making Italian pepper biscuits, lemon knot cookies and biscotti, sponsored by the Christian Women’s Society; the bakers were VICKI DISCENZA, TINA ROSSI and ANTOINETTE CARBONE....

On May 31, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany will offer a “brown bag lunch and learn” program, with a tour of the New York State executive mansion and a multimedia presentation at the cathedral on Catholic governors of New York, including campaign artifacts. Sacred Heart parish in Troy is ending its Monday-morning Mass as of June 25....

As Our Lady of the Valley in Middleburgh planned renovations to its hall, parishioners were invited to take home unneeded games and craft supplies. Starting May 19-20, OLV’s Saturday vigil Mass will be offered at 5:45 p.m. at Middleburgh United Methodist Church; Sunday Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. rather than the normal 9:45 a.m. to accommodate the Methodist church’s regular service. Daily Masses will also be offered at United Methodist. The hall work should be completed by October....

St. Francis of Assisi parish in Albany announced that DAVID GORDON, the GED coordinator for St. John’s/St. Ann’s Outreach Center, was honored by Trinity Alliance for tutoring and mentoring students. KATHY ENGEL is the center’s new assistant program manager....

MIKE WALTERS of Holy Spirit parish in Gloversville was named Lexington Center’s volunteer of the year. He also serves at Mass each week, works bingo every Saturday, is active in the Holy Names Society, works at food events, decorates the church, cleans the grounds and has sung in the choir....

St. Michael’s in South Glens Falls is beginning a practice that, when candles on the altar are lit 10 minutes before Mass, conversations conclude so everyone can prayerfully prepare for Mass. Parishioners are also asked not to leave church right after receiving communion....
