When Albany County Executive DAN MCCOY’S office announced its 2018 volunteers of the year, junior CHRISTOPHER DIOTTE of Shaker High School in Latham was cited for his volunteer service at St. Catherine’s. For four years, he and his Eagle Scout troop have collected toys and stocking-stuffers for the children St. Catherine’s serves, and then held a Christmas party at the center’s Copson House residential facility and a laser tag day. Also honored was TOM MULLINS, another supporter of St. Catherine’s.
April was National Volunteer Month. Groups that helped out St. Catherine’s included parishioners of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, who spent a day at the Marillac homeless shelter baking cupcakes, playing with the kids and planting a garden. Holy Spirit parish in East Greenbush gave two children at St. Catherine’s renovated bedrooms.
