"YOUR CALL IS A CALL TO GO OUT into the world and tell the Good News, by your life and by your example. It's not really about you, but it is about all of us," Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger told Rev. Zachariah Chichester, the newest priest of the Albany Diocese, in ordaining him last weekend at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany.
"A priest is not only a priest for the people of God, but for the whole world," added Bishop Scharfenberger. "The witness and the love that you bear into the world makes a difference."
Priesthood, said Bishop Scharfenberger in his homily, is about relationship with God and God's people: "The graced moment will come after you finish Mass."
Holy Trinity parish in Cohoes, where Father Chichester spent several months during his formation for the priesthood, notes that he initiated a holy hour of eucharistic adoration during his time at the parish. Parishioners were recently encouraged to attend by Rev. Brian Slezak, pastor, who noted: "I cannot think of any greater gift to Zach than to offer your prayers for him before he begins his work on behalf of our salvation."
