From Sunday bulletins

The choir at St. Joseph’s in Greenwich has been overheard practicing Christmas carols before and after Masses — not for “Christmas in July,” but because they are recording a long-awaited Christmas album this month. Sales of the album will benefit the restoration of the church’s stained-glass windows, some new choir seating and music needs....

Also regarding music, Immaculate Conception parish in Glenville has been given a baby grand piano by parishioner PHIL RODRIGUEZ. It will be placed in the parish hall. Meanwhile, St. Patrick’s in Ravena said it was giving away its circa-1980 “rehearsal piano” (email JOHN, [email protected]).

Immaculate Conception parish is also becoming more eco-friendly, changing light bulbs to energy-efficient LED bulbs (which also saves money)....

MARY MOORE of All Saints on the Hudson parish in Mechanicville/Stillwater made her voice heard about a small change to the Bishop’s Appeal campaign in humorous poetic form. “‘The Little Wooden Pencil:’ I went to Mass on Sunday, filled with zeal/Awaiting the annual Bishop’s Appeal/Imagine my surprise when I got to my pew/And no ‘little wooden pencils’ did I view/Having the appeal form didn’t fill my need/Without the wooden pencil I could not proceed/Father said, ‘Take the form home and ponder’/If I take it home I’m afraid it will wander/An appeal to the bishop: In the future, I hope/You’ll include a ‘little wooden pencil’ in the envelope”....

All Saints on the Hudson has also added a new bulletin feature: local photographs with accompanying stories submitted by parishioners....

There have been some interesting parish events of late:

•  At St. Mary’s in Oneonta, REV. DAVID MICKIEWICZ led “a contemplation of light,” speaking to the Rosary Society and others about the church’s stained-glass windows.

•  At St. Theresa’s in Windham, there have been Saturday-morning gatherings for women on the topic, “the woman God sees,” covering women’s worth and perseverance and God’s mercy and forgiveness.

•  St. Ann’s in Fort Ann held “a night to reminisce,” with older parishioners remembering the founding of the parish, what Masses were like years ago, who started parish traditions and the like. Parishioners who don’t drive at night even got a ride to the event.

•  At Holy Trinity in Cohoes, a “chair aerobics” class is coming up after Labor Day, with a demonstration June 20, 10 a.m. (call 518-237-2373).

•  St. Joseph’s in Scotia had a table handing out water to spectators at the annual “Cruisin’ on the Avenue” car show June 17.

•  On the same day, Our Lady of the Americas Shrine Church in Albany (a mission of Blessed Sacrament parish) held its annual baseball competition between fathers and youth, sponsored by the parish men’s ministry, at McKownville Park.

•  St. Paul’s parish in Hancock encouraged parishioners to attend a screening of the film “Paul, Apostle of Christ” at Hancock Cinemas, from which a donation of $185 was made for the parish’s community fund. The funds helps travelers in need of a bite to eat, gas or a place to stay for a night.

•  Corpus Christi in Round Lake had several discussions on “faith formation in today’s world,” with parents talking about their expectations of the faith formation program and offering recommendations.

•  Holy Spirit parish in Gloversville just celebrated five years of perpetual adoration at the parish with an evening of benediction, a procession and a reception.

•  St. Joseph’s in Richfield Springs/West Winfield has another session of “Theology Uncorked” June 21, 6:30 p.m., at its Richfield Springs worship site, with videos from “clear, articulate and faithful Catholics.”

“Pierogi angels” at St. Stani­slaus parish in Amsterdam made more than 600 dozen potato and cheese and cabbage pierogi for the parish festival coming up July 14-15....

St. Joseph’s in Fort Edward not only has new church steps, but a rose garden nearby, courtesy of MIKE DUGGAN in memory of parishioner MARY LEE GODFREY and altar server SKYLAR WILSON. St. Francis of Assisi parish in Northville is also replacing its front steps....

St. Mary’s in Glens Falls reminisced about “a special child of God” from the parish: SISTER LAURENTIA KELLY, CSJ, one of the pioneer nuns who helped to form the parish school, St. Mary’s Academy. Remaining in Glens Falls for 50 years, Sister Laurentia did cleaning, cooking and laundry at the convent, and her happy personality made her a favorite. Her favorite adage is etched on her gravestone at the parish  cemetery: “I never had an unhappy day. I was God’s pet”....

SISTER KARYL FREDRICKS, SNJM, recently celebrated her 60th anniversary in religious life with a Mass at Christ the King parish in Westmere, Albany. The Holy Names sister taught all over the East coast and spent 12 years leading the faith formation program at Christ the King.

Also at Christ the King, there was a meeting of everyone participating in eucharistic adoration to talk about how to support and continue it at the parish....

As always, there are many milestones at parishes:

•  Immaculate Conception in Hoosick Falls celebrated parishioner CAROLYN BACHORZ’S 100th birthday, while LENA DEROLLO’S 93rd birthday and ANN RECCHIO’S 90th were lauded by Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Frankfort and Annunciation in Ilion.

•  At Holy Spirit in East Greenbush, GEORGE AND BARBARA SAGER celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary, while at St. Mary’s in Crescent, DONALD AND MARILYN HAGGERTY celebrated their 50th, as did RON AND PAT MOCERINE of St. Mary’s in Nassau....

Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Watervliet had an adult faith formation talk by SISTER DOREEN GLYNN, CSJ, on social justice. IHM also noted that retired pastor REV. L. EDWARD DEIMEKE has continued his practice of scooping ice cream at nearby Mac’s Drive-In as a fundraiser for the parish; he’ll be back July 19, 5-8 p.m., with the parish getting 10 percent of proceeds from sales....

St. Stephen’s parish in Hagaman had its first outdoor Mass in its prayer gazebo on Memorial Day. Thirty-five people attended, despite the threat of rain....

Immaculate Conception parish in Glenville congratulated OWEN COLE, the new grand knight for Knights of Columbus Council 10013, and new Rosary Altar Society officers PAT RUTKOWSKI, DOROTHY HINDS, MARIE NOSEK and MARILYN MOYNI­HAN. Also, COLTON WILDER is a new parish maintenance employee....

Sacred Heart parish in Lake George notes that “resident historian” PEGGY GERMANO gave a talk on the church’s stained-glass windows, while LUCILLE AND JOE DATELLO delivered summer worship schedules to every motel on the Bolton Road....

St. Gabriel’s in Rotterdam was offering two 10-by-20-foot plots in its community garden to interested area residents....

CECILY BAILEY of Corpus Christi in Round Lake will walk part of the Camino de Santiago in Spain this summer with 18 other pilgrims, including REV. MARTIN FISHER of Notre Dame-Visitation parish in Schuylerville. She will carry prayer intentions from parishioners to the Cathedral Santiago de Compostela (the Shrine of St. James the Great), where the Apostle St. James is believed to be buried....

Holy Trinity parish in Cohoes congratulates KAITLYN TEBORDO WOOD, the new pastor of the United Church of Cohoes and the daughter of former pastor REV. NICK TEBORDO, who served for more than 40 years....

St. Matthew’s parish in Voorheesville is starting a new “care for creation team” in the fall to look at environmental stewardship....

Parishioners of St. James in Chatham walked in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay For Life.” Parishioner IVY LISCOMB, a senior at The University at Albany, has volunteered to help elderly members of the community and connected with homebound women in Chatham and with Whittier Adult Home....

MARTIN KAISER thanked parishioner of Christ Sun of Justice in Troy who supported his annual “Ride for Kids” to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation; he raised $6,468, with more donations still coming in....

The Spring Run-Off to benefit St. John’s/St. Ann’s Outreach Center in Albany was won by CAROL FURMAN; at least $635 in donations were raised by what BARBARA QUINN called “phantom runners,” with more donations still arriving.
