In the wake of 13 shootings in Albany since July 3, REV. FRANK O’CONNOR wrote to parishioners of the Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Americas in Albany, a mission of Blessed Sacrament parish, that “our parish neighborhood continues to be torn and shattered by violence. Chaos and confusion disturb the hearts and minds of those who live here, especially the youth whose lives are so fragile.
“As a parish community, we hope to be an island of peace in the midst of the chaos,” he continued. “What do we have to offer this community victimized by violence? We can offer silence, healing and, hopefully, peace. We find this silence, this peace of Jesus, in the Eucharist, where His heart beats with love for us. Next Sunday, between the Masses, we will pray before Jesus exposed on the altar for the repose of those murdered violently. We will pray for those who did the killings, for our neighbors who are directly affected, and for our police who risk their lives for the safety of us all. We will pray for forgiveness and peace. We hope that the peace of Jesus will heal our neighborhood and all of us.”
