Following in the footsteps of the Magi
The community here at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons strives to search for Christ in our daily lives by helping fulfill our duties as Christians. We live our faith by performing acts of kindness and praying for those in need, especially during the Advent and Christmas season. Collectively as a school, we gathered food items for the less fortunate, participated in the Pajama Promise program, raised money for “Pennies for Patients”, and made cards for residents of the local nursing home. Additionally, we lifted each faculty member and student’s family up in prayer during this season, being mindful of the difficulties that many face during this time. Our school worked diligently to come together as a family this season to help those who truly needed guidance while they prepared for the holidays.
When the Wise Men arrived in Bethlehem after traveling a great distance to see the newborn King, they paid our Lord homage by kneeling before him and presenting gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The Magi ignored the request made by Herod to reveal the location of baby Jesus and left without informing Herod. In our Catholic churches, schools, and homes we can venerate the newborn Savior just as the Magi did on that faith-filled evening not only by displaying a replica of the Nativity during the Christmas season but by performing acts of kindness every day. As Catholics, we should follow in the footsteps of the Wise Men, by reflecting the essence of their faithfulness and dedication to God in our hearts.
